Position Title: Engineering Technician

Pay Range: TBD Duration: 1 month LOCATION Carlsbad, CA Duties: Scope may include: design, specification, evaluation, installation, and qualification of equipment and new technologies for reliable, cost effective production systems. Supports, and tests manufacturing equipment and processes, applying knowledge of manufacturing engineering technology, under direction of engineering and scientific staff. May guide and train less experienced maintenance/operations personnel on the use of manufacturing equipment and/or processes. Essential Functions: Apply elementary engineering principles to amend, model or prototype new and existing processes and develop specifications for critical parameters. Perform routine equipment repairs as needed by customers or determined through routine audits including but not limited to equipment assembly per drawings, electrical, plumbing, welding construction. Assist various departments in troubleshooting and resolving issues as they arise. Complete emergency repairs as needed. Monitor and collect data regarding system/equipment performance and report. Identify existing problems and recommend possible solutions. Proficient in SolidWorks to construct equipment from models, assemblies, and detailed drawings. Ability to model parts, construct subassemblies and assemblies, drafts detailed drawings or sketches of components and/or systems used for manufacturing equipment is preferred. Mechanical aptitude for application to build custom automation from drawings, models, and/or sketches including wiring electrical components. Interface, collaborate, and communicate with internal customers and cross-functional teams on productivity projects and cost saving measures. Participates on routine validation and qualification protocols for new and existing equipment. Trains maintenance/operations staff on troubleshooting techniques and use of manufacturing equipment with the help of engineering staff. Troubleshoot existing processes and recommend engineering solutions and/or equipment to address quality, capacity, and robustness issues. May perform other related duties as required and/or assigned. Nature and Scope: This position interacts primarily with internal customers with some contact with external vendors. That interaction requires good oral communication and analytical skills in identifying problems and solutions to satisfy customer requirements. Effectiveness in this roll also requires minimal working knowledge of the assigned customers’ processes, equipment, and systems. The incumbent works on problems of diverse scope and minimal complexity requiring analysis of identifiable factors. The incumbent normally receives detailed instruction on routine work and new assignments. May sit at desk for a long period of time to answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Works in a lab and/or warehouse environment. May on a continuous basis walk, bend and lift up to 40 lbs. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Thorough working knowledge of relevant manufacturing systems and processes required. Solid communication and problem solving skills required. Proficiency in the use of SolidWorks. Education: Associate’s Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in an engineering related field or equivalent experience in engineering/maintenance functions.
